Estevan Sharks Water Polo member, Emily Marshall was recently in Orange County California for the USA Water polo Under 18 Junior Olympics.

Although Emily is still eligible as 'Under 16', she put forward an excellent showing playing against older competition. In 6 games, she posted 6 goals and 11 assists.

As a part of the Estevan Sharks, Marshall has gone on to represent Saskatchewan on a number of different stages including provincially and nationally.

endors and connections in the polo community. There were a number of college coaches that were in attendance at each game and the opportunity to earn scholarships.

The actual tournament started on the 27th. There are 4 categories total , Platinum and Gold in the Championship division and Silver and bronze in the classic division, for a total of 96 teams. When we attended qualifiers in May we finished in 4th place which meant we entered in the championship division.

We started the tournament in pool A against the #1 seeded(in classic) LAWPC at 7am. The jet lag and nerves played a huge part in our 17-5 loss. Emily was able to contribute both offensively and defensively including 1 goal and an assist. In our second game we started to relax and play as part of a team. We played the 24th seeded South County Herriman at 10:20. Again Emily was able to contribute both offensively and defensively with a goals for and against average of 2/1. She again added a goal and 2 assists. In both games our team did not play clean and we averaged 4 penalties to each 1 of theirs. Our final game of the day was at 5:20 vs the Northwest Blue Crush in the cross over between A2 and B3. Our offence came to life with a 15-8 victory. Emily again added 3 assists. On the second day we faced the Exeter Water Polo Club in the first round of the Silver division round robin. They were a strong team who went on to place very high in the tournament. The did say that we were the toughest competition that they had faced all tournament. Again Emily added a goal and an assist. Unfortunately 2 penalty shots and few missed opportunities lead to a 9-6 loss. Our next game was at 2:30 vs South Valley. We needed a victory to have the opportunity to play for 13-20 place. We sustained a 7-5 loss sending us to the 21-24 playoff. In our first game of the day Sat we faced the American River team. Unfortunately the team was a little disorganized as they used a style of defense we were not used to seeing and capitalized on their opportunities. We fell 11-6. Emily was able to score 1 goal and add 2 assists in the game. At 2:00 we played the Northern CA Aquatics. Unfortunately we came up short again with a 10-6 loss. The girls played very well as a team but the other team was stronger. Emily was able to add 2 goals and 2 assists in the game. Our final game was against the Tribe from California. The girls played together and put out their strongest performance of the tournament with a commanding 13-7 victory to finish in 23 place in the Silver division or 73 overall. Emily finished the tournament with a 3-1 goals for/against ratio. For being one of the youngest on the team she played very well.

We had the opportunity to take in some of the fun of California including the beach. Overall the trip was a huge success.
