The putter was as hot for Ryan McMillan as the weather was all week in Estevan as the junior golfer out of the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club (Winnipeg, MB) captured the 2017 Future Links Prairie Championship on Thursday afternoon at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club.

McMillan, who entered the third and final round three strokes behind the leader, fired a tournament-best round of 68 (-4) to claim the victory with a final score of 211 (-5).

"My putts inside eight feet were really good today considering the last couple of weeks I was fighting to get those in," expressed McMillan after signing his winning scorecard off the 18th green.

McMillan Finished With Three Birdies On The Final 9 Holes

McMillan started the day in the final group pairing with 36-hole leader Tayden Wallin of Humboldt, SK (3rd place, +1) and Kade Johnson of Yorkton, SK (2nd place, -1). The three talented athletes were neck-and-neck until the back nine, when McMillan pulled away.

"It was a really good competition today," stated McMillan. "On the 11th tee we were all tied and I thought, 'We got a battle here.'"

"I was expecting to have to shoot a low score today to win, and the other two played really well."

The golfers couldn't have asked for better conditions for all three days of the Golf Canada event, and the maintenance and service staff from the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club made sure the experience was one that the competitors would never forget.

"The course was great," added McMillan who raved about the playing conditions in his first experience in Estevan . "I really like the layout here and the greens were good for me."
