Steady commitment and hard work, along with a bit of talent, has placed local competitive archer Hunter Chipley on Team Sask for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

"It feels pretty good. I worked really hard at it," he says, "I shot at least three times a week, and worked on form. Having a good form will bring up your score, so I increased my scores up by probably 15 points."

In addition to the weekly dedication, he's worked out around 2-3 times per week, and attended archery camps, all to build up his skills and gain qualification to represent the province. Now that he's made the team, however, the work doesn't lessen.

"It still continues. I've still got to do all that stuff to keep everything working. I still work on all my same stuff, like form and all that, building up my strength and endurance. Right now, I focus on building up endurance so I can shoot more arrows at times. At Nationals (2018 Canadian Archery Championships) I shot 60-90 arrows per day, and I assume the Canada Games will be close to the same."

"This is definitely a big accomplishment, and I'm hoping I can do pretty good there," he added.

Chipley will be joined on Team Sask by three other top archers in the province, all in his age range, and all of whom he's familiar with.

"I know all of them from previous camps...for over a year and a half now."

Chipley is set to compete in the Male Recurve division for Saskatchewan as the Canada Winter Games take place in Feburary in Red Deer, Alberta.
