With the Wheat Kings up 1-0 in the series after game one, the Carnduff Red Devils and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings waited almost a full week before playing game two of their final series in the Big Six Hockey League's playoffs, and the week's buildup of tensions boiled over quickly.

A minute-thirty into the game, Carnduff's Justin Smith and Yellow Grass' Lyndon Lumb exchanged one too many unpleasantries when they both took ten minutes in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Both men would watch the game's first goal enter the net less than thirty seconds later. Troy Miller would pot the first one in the net just 2:07 into the game passed Cody Dumaine, and the Wheat Kings would have the early lead with assists from captain Justin Richter and Brendon Vertefeuille.

It wouldn't take very long for Carnduff to respond, and on the powerplay. After an assist on the game's first goal, Richter would be sent to the box for tripping. On the ensuing powerplay, Devon Carriere would get a pass from Trevor Geiger and Sean Mulcahy and tie the game up just before the halfway mark of the period.

The rest of the period would see a bit of chippiness with a total of 30 penalty minutes between the two teams in the first period alone, 24 of which were on two offsetting plays, and the remaining six going to Yellow Grass. Despite the three powerplay chances, Carnduff would have to settle for the lone tally.

After 1: 1-1

The second period would continue the defensive hockey trend shown in the second half of the first period. Neither team would be able to get the edge on each other until the 8:12 into the frame, and even then it would not last long.

The Red Devils would take their first lead of the game when a passing play would find its way on to the stick of Sheldon Thompson who would put the puck passed Tanner Erickson, assists going to Nico Anderson and Mulcahy again.

Off the faceoff at centre ice however, the Wheat Kings would come right back when their leading scorer Devon Cobbold would pick up a loose puck and score on an unassisted play, just 19 seconds after the Red Devils took the lead.

This period would again be highly contested with another 30 minutes of penalties, again two off-setting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties worth ten minutes each, but no one would score on the remaining ten minutes of penalties in the period.

After 2: 2-2

In the third, Carnduff would take the hint and realize the penalties were hurting them, so for the entire 20 minute frame they didn't take single infraction. As for Yellow Grass, they would give up another eight minutes of powerplays in the period, but despite chance after chance, Tanner Erickson would hold strong in the net for the Wheat Kings and blank the Red Devils, meaning it would need some extra time to figure this game out.

After 3: 2-2

In the first overtime period, the Wheat Kings would also take the hint that penalties weren't helping their cause, and an entire 20 minutes of play would go by without anything being marked down on the scoring sheet, goals or penalties.

To the second overtime we go, and only 50 seconds is what was needed to finish the game off. The Wheat Kings would get the game victory when Tucker Neuberger would score an unassisted goal to make it a 3-2 game in the second overtime, shocking the crowd in Carnduff.

FINAL SCORE: Yellow Grass 3 - 2 Carnduff, Yellow Grass leads the series 2-0

Yellow Grass is now one game away from their first ever Lincoln Memorial Trophy in the Big Six Hockey League just four seasons into joining the league. Goaltender Tanner Erickson was easily the best penalty killer in the entire game for Yellow Grass. He faced a total of 15:29 with a man down in front of him and only allowed a single goal on the penalty kill.

On top of the over fifteen minutes of penalties, Yellow Grass also had 20 minutes added to their penalty total thanks to two separate 10 minute misconducts, good for a total of 35:29 with someone in the box, though neither team was all that clean. Carnduff also had three penalty kills of their own along with 10 minute misconducts, good for a total of 26 minutes in the box.

They combine for over 61 minutes in penalty time with only a single powerplay goal. Neither team had a lead for more than five minutes.

The series could end Thursday night in Yellow Grass if the Wheat Kings win. You can listen in at 8pm on CJ 1150.
