The Estevan City Council has approved a new score clock to be built in Affinity Place ahead of the Centennial Cup coming to the city next year - with a caveat.

The city council is hoping to see ticket sales from the Estevan Bruins reach around 50 per cent of the expected price of the new score clock, or around $125,000.

It would need to be purchased by January 2022 in order to be ready for the Centennial Cup.

Concerns were brought up over how difficult the board would be to operate, especially for non-Bruins events.

The Estevan Bruins Director of Marketing & Operations Danny Ewen said that they are working with the group that produces the score clocks to train people.

It was also put forward that students from the local high schools could also be taught how to operate the board, to give them the opportunity for volunteer work.

The cost of the scoreboards varies between the two models that have been shown by the Bruins.

One is around $222,000, while the other is closer to $264,000.

The latter model would be similar, being a half meter bigger and having rounded screens.

Ewen explained that with the rounded screens there would be more room on the score clock and thus more opportunities for ad space to increase revenue.

The decision as to which model to choose was pushed back until November when the council would have a better idea of the project's feasibility based on projected ticket sales.
