Tonight the Warm Welcome Shelter is officially open to those in need.

At 8 PM, the shelter will open for the first time this season. With the shelter comes volunteer specific challenges. The shelter would not be possible without the support of the community and the local volunteers.

"We have people that are basically needing to be in the shelter like  yesterday, so this is awesome for us to be able to help the less fortunate," says Colleen Jensen, Community Hospitality  for the Salvation Army in Estevan.  Even though the shelter is opening there is still a need for volunteers.

"I am okay with the number of volunteers I have to get the shelter open, but presently it's the midnight to 8 a.m. shift that I'm really struggling with as usual," says Jensen.

Jensen would also like to add, that if anyone knows they are going to be using the shelter, let the Salvation Army know ahead of time.  Tonight, the shelter is at St. Paul's United Church but will be moving to the Salvation Army in the future. When asked what kinds of donations are good for the shelter, Jensen said board games are great to pass time in the evening.

If you know anyone that needs to access the shelter, or if you would like to donate to the shelter, contact the Salvation Army directly at 306-634-2074.
