Some exciting upgrades are coming down the pipe for the Lampman Volunteer Fire Department that will enable them to better keep their area safe.

This is in the form of a new fire truck that will be able to perform multiple duties.

"It's more than just a fire truck, it's a combination pumper-rescue truck. We are just in the early stages of raising some funds and then we will start to look for a truck after that," explained Fire Chief Grant Palmer.

"Basically it will give us the capability of pumping water as a second unit, and a place for all our tools. We've outgrown our smaller rescue unit, so that's why we're getting a bigger one, with the ability to carry all our implements, go to vehicle extrications and transport up to five members to the scene."

"It's basically just a multi purpose apparatus," he summarized.

Palmer noted that the support from their community has been great, and pointed out a fundraising supper being held on June 10th as an example of that.

"We sold out the 40 tables. There is 8 per table, so there will be about 320 people there. We are selling tickets on a raffle too that night, and silent auction and auction items will be going. It will also be a comedian night, as we are having two out of Regina."

He added that the folks have seen the benefits of having extrication equipment in the community over the years.

"It's in the early stages, so we haven't picked one out yet. We have an idea, but it's just the first step of a big process."
