Some may have noticed the increase in numbers of certain types of insects around this time of year. Some of these insects being yellowjackets, the boxelder beetle or grasshoppers.

If you notice the increased number of yellowjackets around your yard or patio there are a few ways to get rid of them. There are a number of store-bought remedies you could purchase but there are many ways you can DIY a trap. Such as cutting a two-liter bottle in half and flipping the top side over into the bottom, then mixing some sugar water is an easy way to trap yellowjackets.  

Boxelder beetles are, like their name attracted to the box elder tree. Rod March explains "They're most attracted to the box elder tree. They're going to be coming out this time of year seeking shelter." March adds that it is best not to step on them if you see them in your home because they can stain your floor. He suggests vacuuming them. 

As for grasshoppers, though the numbers are not high this year you may have been seeing lately. Everything is in cycles so that is why you may be seeing a few around this time of year.

With fall approaching the bug population with taper off as the temperature drops.
