Early Construction Of The New Lockers Introduced This Year For The Elecs Football Team

The Estevan Elecs Football team is getting some big help with their fundraising causes from maybe the biggest name in Saskatchewan Roughrider history. George Reed will be donating an autographed jersey to be auctioned off at their awards banquet next Wednesday.

"When George Reed paid a visit to our first Awards Banquet last November, he offered his support to our team. He followed up that statement with donating a signed Rider Jersey", stated Brenda Lyons, President of the ECS Parents Association."I hope it helps you out a great deal, were George's comments to me", continued Lyons.

As well, the Association has obtained 4 tickets to the sold out Grey Cup game to be held in Edmonton later this month. The tickets will include passes to "Tailgate with Boston Pizza" prior to the game.

Earlier this year, the Parents Association, as well as the Estevan Comprehensive School and Estevan Minor Football embarked on three major capital projects to ensure the viability of the football team. This included re-surfacing the practice field, building a locker and storage facility, and fencing in this area. The practice field was ready in time to begin the practice season this fall. The locker room, partially completed, housed the football team for the end portion of their practice season. Prior to this building, the team had no place to call home.

"Having a place that we could meet as a team, really made a difference to our team at the end of the season", commented head coach Marco Ricci. "A team needs a place to be together, and it was great that we moved in just prior to our playoff win."

Fundraising is still required. The locker room is not 100% completed and a fence is required around the perimeter of the compound to protect the hard work of this past season.

"We are hoping that football fans will be enticed by these auction items. What better way than to end the Rider's 100th Anniversary than by purchasing a Legend’s signed jersey or to take a trip to the Grey Cup." stated Lyons. Bids will be taken by email up until November 23rd at 5:00pm to bren.lyons@sasktel.net. A live auction will be held for the items at the Elecs Football Team's Annual Banquet on November 24.
