An event that has showcased the generosity of the southeast for the last several years is on again Thursday.

Golden West is holding Blow Away Hunger at the Southern Plains Co-op grocery stores in Estevan, Carlyle, and Oxbow.

How can I contribute?

Food, money, and hygiene products are being collected at each grocery store. You can also purchase pre-packaged bags.

Who am I helping?

The Salvation Army says approximately 200 people rely on the food bank in Estevan on a monthly basis, and that demand is up nearly 25 per cent compared to this time last year.

All donations in Estevan go to the Estevan Salvation Army's food bank. All donations in Carlyle go to the Carlyle Salvation Army's food bank. Food donations in Oxbow go to the Carnduff and District Food Bank. And monetary donations in Oxbow go to the Oxbow Community Emergency Support Fund.

What can I donate?

You can donate in Estevan from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Carlyle is accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can donate in Oxbow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I hear there are prizes to be won?

There are indeed prizes up for grabs, thanks to our sponsors.

Everyone who donates in Estevan, Carlyle, and Oxbow is eligible to enter for a Briggs & Stratton 208CC 2-Stage Gas Snowblower with Electric Start, 24-in snowblower, courtesy of Canadian Tire.

Each Co-op location is doing a draw for a $100 Co-op gift card (for a total of three $100 Co-op gift cards).

And iShine Cleaning Services has provided a $200 gift card, which everyone who enters the snowblower draw is also entered for.

Which businesses are behind the cause?

We want to give a big shout out to all of the businesses who partnered with us to make this happen:
