While his numbers would indicate he should have been there all along, Bruins forward Troy Hamilton got some better-late-than-never news on Wednesday, January 22. Due to an injury on the SJHL's Team Schwartz, he would be joining teammates Cody Davis and Griffin Asham-Moroz for the final day of the SJHL's showcase games against the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Hamilton, 18, sits 11th overall in rookie scoring with 21 points on the season, but his numbers come in just 30 games, fewer than all but three players ahead of him. Since the start of December, he has nine points in his last 12 games. The Brandon native is the Bruins third leading scorer among rookies, trailing linemates Asham-Moroz and Tyler Savage.

Hamilton would be the sixth Bruin to appear at the event. In addition to Asham-Moroz and Davis, the Bruins also sent goaltender Keenan Rancier, defenseman Kade McMillen, and forward Isaiah Thomas. Both McMillen and Thomas are at their second showcase.

On day one of the event, McMillen set up the only goal by Team Kunitz in the 1-0 victory. In the dying moments of the game, he placed a shot-pass from the point right at Notre Dame Hounds forward Jared Hamm, and Hamm tipped it home for the winner. Not only was it the only goal scored in the game, it would be the only game the SJHL would win.

In the other games, Rancier started the game for Team Mitchell before switching off with Nipawin Hawks goaltender Ross Hawryluk at the midway mark. Rancier surrendered just one goal on 13 shots, but ultimately the SJHL fell 4-1 to tie the overall showcase at one game each.

The final game saw Asham-Moroz and Davis's team Schwartz, coached by Bruins head coach and GM Chris Lewgood, go up against the young stars team of the MJHL. With two younger teams on the ice the hockey was fast paced, but it was the MJHL who came out on top. Both Davis and Asham-Moroz played well, but did not register a point. They'll have a rematch with the MJHL's team Garbutt at 5:00 on Wednesday, January 22.
