Winter is slowly but surely coming to an end with temperatures above zero throughout the day becoming more and more prevalent as we progress further into 2020.

With that, city street crews need to be on the ball making sure that no drains are plugged and that freshly revealed potholes are filled in.

Norm Mack, the roads and drainage manager in the city spoke with us about the matter.

"The past week or so with above freezing temperatures, the crews have been clearing catch basins and culverts, with the projected forecast we will continue to do so all week and prepare some of the catch basins to be open so the water can flow."

He added that they will be making sure that the catch basins in back alleys are flowing as well.

He also said that residents should not expect there to be a substantial amount of runoff during the melting season.

City crews are very proactive in winter clearing snow and taking it outside of the city to their designated dumping zones. They do this to increase the pace of melting and decrease the amount of standing water.

The dumping zones are strategically placed to allow the snow melting the drain properly into the valley without causing any flooding or other water damage issues.

Cold mix road repairs have already started whereas hot asphalt will start being poured once the frost is out of the groud, typically in late April.
