Bit by bit, the City of Estevan is working through what is suddenly a long list of road repairs and water main breaks. Two of the three streets that were shut down for much of yesterday have been reopened, while work continues on a third.

After wrestling with it for almost a week, city crews have restored 9th Avenue between 5th and 6th Street to good working order and gotten traffic flowing again. Also on the list of completed projects is work on the 800-block of 1st Street. Both projects were caused by water main breaks, with one project still to go.

"The 500-block and 600-block of Albert Street are closed today with no thru-traffic due to a water break," said City EMO Coordinator Helen Fornwald. "This closure includes the north sidewalk for pedestrians. The public is requested to avoid this area until the construction work has been completed."

Work will continue on that project today despite the heavy, wet snow falling this morning. That kind of weather isn't too much of a problem for crews, especially after what they had to deal with weather-wise over the two weeks previous.

"It just means that the first few layers of our dig will be taking the snow off and then that's it," Fornwald said. "It's pretty light right now for us. We'll take the snow over the minus-50 weather any day."
