After much consideration regarding the decision to close down the Saskatchewan roadside rest stops, it has been announced that they will continue to stay open. On June 28th, 2019, the Saskatchewan Government announced that the rest stops will be suspended due to the abuse and misuse of them.

The initial decision to close the stops down was due to many factors, including the fact that there was no running water at many of the locations, the washrooms that were made available were continually vandalized, and the public and the employees would often find unsafe objects or materials such as needles. These conditions could result in unnecessary health risks for individuals who used these facilities. Despite the circumstances and complaints about the stops, they will ultimately stay open.

Lori Carr explains, "The right thing to do is leave these open and make them accessible to the public."

The traveling public will continue to have the facilities available to them to use at any time needed.

Carr also touches on what is to come for the rest stops "we have started a committee to look at the future of these rest stops because what we have there is truly not adequate."

The future of these rest stops will not only depend on the Government but on the public and how the facilities will be treated.
