50 cars in just two different feature races made their way to Estevan for the third stop of the Dakota Modified Classic Tour, some from as far as Texas and Arizona. Only two divisions raced, but we had a number spectacular races from both.

Starting off with the Stock car feature, Estevan's Austin Daae finished the heat races in first place and would start the Stock car feature with the pole position to lead the other 20 cars on the field, followed by the other two heat race champions in Dalton Flory from Williston, ND, and Elijah Zevenberg from Ocheyedan, IA. This wouldn't last long, as Daae would start to leave his group behind in the first five laps, but he wouldn't be free and clear.

The first caution of a fairly clean race would tighten the guys up again, putting Ricky Thornton Jr. directly behind Daae in second place, and upon the restart, the battle would begin. With the stock cars, Thornton would go into corner three at the top of the track and in second place, and would finish his turn on the inside, cutting under Daae into corner four, and would sneak out in the lead. From there, he would continue to press on for the remaining 15 laps of the race, even after a second restart, and would come away with the win at a track that has not been kind to Thornton's record in a while.

For the main event of the evening, it took a few races to get there. After 6 heat races and a last chance qualifier, it was time for the semi-finals (B Feature) of the modifieds class. In the first semi-final, the pole position was held with Travis Olheiser from Dickinson, ND, and he would not let go of it for a second throughout the short semi-final.

In the second semi-final race, there was a little more drama. Top seed Les McLenhan would slowly be surpassed by four men from behind him, one of which was Estevan's former winner of this tour, Aaron Turnbull. He wouldn't get much further ahead than third, while Shawn Strand out of Mandan, ND stayed in the same spot that he started the race in second. Lucas Schott out of Chatfield, MN was the on that worked up from third into first to get passed the field.

These men, along with the six heat winner Jason Wolla, Tom Berry Jr., Ricky Thornton Jr., Kody Scholpp, Don Gumke, and Billy Kendall III and another 21 racers, all punched their ticket into the final race of the evening, and the one that meant the most.

Kendall III from Baxter, MN was the man that got the start in the pole position, but a small collision near the start of the race would send him way back in the pack, and Tom Berry Jr. from Newburg, ND moved into first with Ricky Thornton Jr. was right on his tail.

Another restart would give Thornton a chance to move in front along with a shorter field behind him, and after just a few laps Thornton would take advantage. Thornton would take the first place spot, this time by sticking with the top of the track instead of cutting in like he did in the Stock car race, and he managed to get out in front.

Again, Thornton would stay out in front for the rest of the race and he would get away and start to pass the back of the field and it was his race to lose, so he never did. He got his second win in a row on the tour and his third feature win in just two nights on the track.
