Conversations across the globe turned to international relations, as Russia shocked many people in attacking Ukraine.

One of those people is Estevan Mayor Roy Ludwig, who said he did not imagine he'd see a European conflict like this again.

"Nothing this horrific has happened since the Second World War. I think everyone's in shock that you would have an individual that would even entertain such an idea as to go into a sovereign country. This is just insanity."

Ludwig said he feels for Ukrainians in their native country and elsewhere.

"We have a lot of Ukrainian people in Canada, and our hearts go out to them. They must be on pins and needles with a lot of them having relatives still living in the Ukraine."

Ludwig added that Russian President Vladimir Putin's move to invade was incomprehensible.

"Everyone's wondering where Mr. Putin's coming from; the fact that now basically he wants to take over Europe. It's just crazy stuff. So we'll have to watch that situation very closely."

Ludwig said he hopes the international community uses sanctions on Russia until he pulls out of Ukraine.
