A key member of the Estevan Bruins defence the last two seasons is set to begin the post-junior stage of his hockey career in Indiana.

Aleksa Babic has committed to play Div. III hockey with Trine University, in the city of Angola.

Babic was a fan favourite on and off the ice for the Bruins. He collected the Bruins 2022-23 honours for Defenceman of the Year, the Iron Man Award, and the RBC Community Involvement Award.

The Tecumseh, Ont. product was second in team scoring and first among defenceman with 42 points (four goals, 38 assists) in 56 games last season.

He had a goal and 18 helpers in 45 games during the team's 2021-22 SJHL Championship.

"Aleksa was a very good player for us during his time here and played an important role in our championship season," said Bruins head coach and general manager Jason Tatarnic. "I am confident Aleksa will have a very good university career at Trine."

Tatarnic added that Babic was a pleasure to coach and have in the community.
