Estevan-born hockey player Cole Fonstad is taking his career overseas.

The 23-year-old forward has signed with the Straubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in Germany.

Fonstad spent parts of five seasons with the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders and a pair with the Everett Silvertips. He would go on to play 117 pro games for the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, the affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

He also played in a handful of games for his hometown Estevan Bruins along the way.

Fonstad was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
