For the second time in just over a week, the Redvers Rockets and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings would do battle in the Big Six Hockey League on Sunday night. The Rockets took a 4-0 win thanks to some stellar play from Cody Matthewson in net, but that shouldn't take away the work that Tanner Erickson did in net for the Wheat Kings in the losing effort.

The start of the game saw the Wheat Kings get a chance initially where Dylan Frey came down the right side of the ice on a breakaway took a shot that beat Matthewson, but hit the cross bar and dropped down in the crease behind him. Mattewson managed to fall back and swing his arm backwards to get the puck under his glove and stop play.

From there, the Rockets had a majority of the play in the offensive zone and put on a lot of pressure, but they couldn't find the back of the net. After that, the Wheat Kings started to have a push back in their own rink until the final five minutes left of the period when Dylan Frey tried to lift a stick while clearing the zone and caught a man up high, and the Wheat Kings were handed a four minute penalty.

Despite some heavy pressure at the start, the Wheat Kings were able to scave off the powerplay of the Rockets, and we ended the first period scoreless. There were four major hits in the first period, two of which came from Drew Fellner for the Wheat Kings in his defensive zone, while the Rockets had there's come from Brady Gaudet and Remi Lamotte.

After 1: Redvers 0 - 0 Yellow Grass

The second period saw the Wheat Kings get a great chance early because of a powerplay they were awarded at the 00:00 mark of first, but Matthewson had an amazing save. Tucker Neuberger got a puck from the corner right on to his stick with time and space to turn, pick his spot over the top of his glove and under the bar, except Matthewson got his glove up to make the stop.

Tanner Erickson got his time to shine shortly after. Kenton Miller down the left side of the ice on a 2-on-1 with Jordan. Kenton sent the pass across for Jordan tee'd it up and blasted it at the net, and somehow Erickson in the butterfly stretching across the ice was able to lift the glove up, make the save, and fall forward to bring the play to a close.

Kenton Miller came into the game with 48 points on the season, and his linemate/cousin Jordan had 47, so both had the potential to hit the 50 mark by the end of the game and the push to hit that mark was apparent from both. They both got on the board seven minutes into the period when a shot from the point hit Erickson's pad and kicked out the rebound, and Jordan Miller got a whack at it before Kenton took the second that put it into the twine.

After the first 19 minutes, it looked like the game would start the second with just a one goal game. Drew Hoff had other plans. A quick scramble in front of the net saw the puck squirt out to Hoff at the top of the slot, and he pounded the puck into the back of the net. Kenton Miller had an assist, putting him at 50 points this season with 37 seconds left in the period.

The Rockets weren't done for the period. Kenton this time one a 2-on-1 down the left side with Drew Hoff again, and this time Hoff scored on a onetimer and a nice feed to make a close game turn lopsided quickly.

After 2: Redvers 3 - 0 Yellow Grass

The third period would be a little lackluster than the first two. Not the big, highflying saves, not the big hits, an opportunity for either team but neither one was able to capitalize.

The one mark on the scoresheet came from a Kenton Miller goal, his now 52nd point of the season that also gave Jordan Miller an assist to get him to 49, but they wouldn't get another and the Rockets would extend their win streak to 13 wins.

FINAL: Redvers 4 - 0 Yellow Grass

The Redvers Rockets have now taken possession of first place in the league. They're tied at 26 points with the Carnduff Red Devils, but the Rockets have a game in hand and have beaten the Rockets in regulation.
