Every week, the Estevan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Unit (CTS Unit) conducts multiple checks stops throughout the city to assess how motorists are doing inside of the city.

"Well the numbers weren't too bad. Being around the holidays, we tend to focus more on impaired driving. We're working a few more evening shifts. Like we've mentioned in the past, the tickets are a little harder to come by in the evening. That being said, it's still not a bad set of numbers. We're still out there catching people speeding and all of the like," expressed Constable Daniel Gaignard.

However, an RCMP member dealt with an individual who was impaired, driving with special cargo.

"The member stopped a vehicle for speeding. After speaking to the driver, it was determined that he was consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver failed. He was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was later transported to Estevan to give breath samples. At the time of the arrest, the assailant was driving with four minors in the back."

With the immense snow fall the Southeast receiving, Gaignard is asking motorists to be courteous on the road.

"Leaving that big hump of snow on the roof of your vehicle doesn't do the person behind any favor when you start moving. All of that snow has to go somewhere, and generally, it'll end up on the car behind you, impeding their vision. You really need to clean off the entire car."

On that note, he also advised to clean your license plates as best as possible. It is unlawful under the Traffic Safety Act to have that be obstructed in any way shape or form.
