Christmas is usually presented as a time for generosity and giving. This year, the residents of Estevan showed their holiday sharing spirit, with one of the largest beneficiaries being the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Campaign and Estevan Food Bank.

Family Services Coordinator Ronza Reynard says they are overwhelmed by the support they received this year.

"We aimed for $100,000 for our Kettles this season, and came in at $110,000, so we're very excited that we superseded our goal. We are so thankful that the community and surrounding area supports us so well."

She notes that a lot of people volunteered their time to make it happen.

"We had over 88 individuals, and 39 companies and service groups that came on board to ring the bells with us. We weren't sure how it was going to turn out considering the economy in Estevan, but the community continues to support us so we are able to help everybody year-round."

She reveals that the funds received during the Christmas season are not just for Christmas, they are used to help people 365 days a year.

While the Kettle campaign proved a major success, the Estevan Food Bank, also run by Salvation Army, raked in support as well.

According to Reynard the shelves are overflowing with food donations.

"We are bursting at the seams right now. Both rooms are filled, so we have an over-stock. This should take us into March or April, depending on how busy the food bank gets.

She expects activity at the Food Bank will pick up in January, after the Christmas Season is over.
