The South East Cornerstone Public School Division was subject to a cybersecurity incident on Wednesday that resulted in a number of service disruptions. Those disruptions affected several systems in the physical and virtual schools.

The division notified parents of the incident by email late Friday afternoon.

In the email, it was explained that the incident was an unauthorized third party gaining access to the division's network. The intrusion was discovered quickly, and steps were taken to prevent further access.

The email stressed that there is no indication at this time that the personal information of students was impacted. However, the investigation is still in its early stages, and if any student data was impacted, parents will be notified.

The division included in the email that they have retained third-party cybersecurity experts, and have also engaged their external legal counsel to assist in investigating and recovering from the incident. The RCMP have also been notified of the incident.
