Hoopla was just around the corner before the season got cut short for the ECS senior boys' basketball team.

Originally the STF put a stop to extracurricular activities and then COVID-19 came to Canada and put a stop to sports.

Head coach Trevor Dutka said the season went well.

"It was disappointing the way it ended. We were getting ready for districts and we had all of our players playing their best basketball towards the end of the season."

Throughout the season the team improved physically and mentally.

"Our biggest improvement was our maturity. Last year we had five players graduate, so we had a lot of new faces and people stepping up to the starting position."

Seniors Denys Bodnarus and Reilly McGeough are both graduating this year and moving on to post-secondary.

The decision to cancel Hoopla was a big one.

"They needed to do that to keep everyone safe. In all sports, safety is above everything else."

Coaches and players alike put in a lot of time and hard work during the season.

"Sports help you take pride in something other than your studies."

During the offseason, once things cool down, players will be doing camps up until the next season.

"I am excited for next year since we have such a strong team."
