The Estevan Police Service was alerted Tuesday morning to several cases of break-and-enters and damage to property around the Hillside area.

EPS Const. Danielle Stephany said the incidents included homes being broken into and property being stolen.

Police are still collecting statements on Wednesday morning as they continue their investigation.

Stephany encouraged homeowners to take some simple measures to avoid falling victim, including securing property.

"Those motion lights, as inexpensive as they are, they're such a good deterrent," she said. "It doesn't seem like much, but anything that just keeps people on their toes as to whether or not they want to enter property."

Police are trying to keep a close on parts of town that thieves might be harder to see.

"When we patrol at night, I see so many residences that are so dark and so many streets that no street lights are on," said Stephany. "Those are the ones that I try to patrol the most."

Stephany did not say what the stolen property was, as police are still collecting information.

She said she wouldn't be surprised if more reports of damage to property were to surface.
