UPDATE: the watch is no longer in effect.

Golf ball-sized hail and 100-kph winds could hit the Estevan area Saturday afternoon and evening.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch at 2:05 Saturday afternoon, citing those as the primary threats from the storms.

Here is Environment Canada’s map of areas under the alerts:

“Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury,” said the alert. “Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

”Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.”
