A winter storm watch was issued by Environment Canada, with a low-pressure system expected to bring a mix of winter weather beginning Monday night

This could include blizzard conditions, freezing rain, and, in the coming days, extreme cold warnings.

The Estevan area shouldn't see much snow. Though the Hudson Bay area could see around 20 centimetres.

Wind gusts from the northwest are expected to reach 80 kph Monday night and into Tuesday for much of southern Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Kyle McAulay said icy conditions could be on the way too.

"Along with the system, there's a slight risk of freezing rain in some parts of southern Saskatchewan, through Estevan to the Battlefords. It looks like in Estevan the best chance of that happening is later on tonight - sometime overnight after midnight."

There are some abnormal swings in temperature on the way too.

The temperature will rise Monday night to around -1 C by Tuesday morning.

Then it will fall to around -18 C Tuesday afternoon.

"Tuesday looks like a pretty cool night," said McAulay. "Wind chills in the low minus 30s. So there might be some extreme cold warnings issued with that."

The end of the week should see a warm-up, with highs of -9 C Thursday and -2 C Friday. That could be accompanied by more precipitation, with periods of snow in the forecast Thursday night and Friday.

"Keep an eye on the forecast," said McAulay. "Keep checking it, because we'll update it if any warnings are needed. Especially in the Estevan area, it may be a blowing snow advisory or a wind warning. Just keep an eye on the forecast and give yourself extra driving time if you have to commute during this system."
