Believe it or not the football season in the southeast is only about a month away.

The Southeast Saskatchewan Viragos girl's football team returns to the practice field Wednesday night as they prepare for their fall season.

The team will practice Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays leading up to their season opener against Melville on Sept. 9 in Estevan.

"It's going to be a good season, I already know that," said Viragos Head Coach Mark Tribiger. "We have a good core of girls coming back, and with our spring season we had a really good showing and we're going to progress on that."

The Viragos will once again be part of the Prairie Girls Football League alongside teams from Yorkton, Melville, Regina, and Moosomin. Tribiger said the league should continue to grow in the future.

"We should be seeing a couple more teams hopefully in the next few seasons here," he said.

He added that the Viragos have a good sized roster as it heads into the fall season.

"We're sitting with about 18 (players) as of right now, and we have a couple more that we know are hopefully going to be back part way through the season...they're dealing with some injuries from outside of football," Tribiger said. "It's all a waiting game on those ones, but we could always definitely use more players."

"It's very exciting...we can't wait for it to kick off. And I mean it's football season right, what more can I say?"
