The Big Six hockey league has a weekend of games including one that has a team looking for their first win of the season.

Friday the Midale Mustangs are on the road to face the KW Oil Kings, the Carlyle Cougars visit the Bienfait Coalers, and the Redvers Rockets host the Wawota Flyers.

On Saturday the KW Oil Kings visit the Carnduff Red Devils, the Moosomin Rangers are on the road to take on the Flyers and the Oxbow Huskies travel to Midale.

Oil Kings manager Josh Haffler says they're looking to end the loss streak that's dogged the team so far this season.

"We haven't put a win in the win column yet, so it's hard to feel great, but we've played some close games against good teams, so we're hoping that with the new year we maybe get some better results."

"I think we're close. We have a good young group and we're we're learning to play better defence and just hoping to put offence and defence together in the same game and and get a few wins here to get into the playoffs."

The Red Devils meanwhile are 5-4-0, and making a recovery from sickness according to co-manager Jason Boyse.

"Before Christmas there, we had a lot of guys battling the cold and flu that's been going around and haven't had a full lineup every night, but it's been pretty good."

The Red Devils won't underestimate the Oil Kings even with their current record.

"I think it'll be a good game, I know Kipling's not real strong there this year, but I know they've had some really, really good games with some good teams. So it'll definitely be a good game. The boys are gonna have to show up to play because Kipling is going to put up a good fight for sure."

That game will be held at 8 p.m. at the Carnduff Centennial Arena. You can listen to the game live on CJ1150 or stream it on DiscoverEstevan.
