A flurry of baseball action for several Estevan baseball teams kicks off on Friday as provincials get underway in various locations across the province.

The Estevan Bantam AA Twins hit the road to Saskatoon to face 8 other clubs in a race for the title, and Coach TJ Babyak believes his players have a shot.

"The fact that we entered into Tier 3 provincials, I think sets us up quite well. We were at a tournament in Maxim there and we were facing teams that were Tier 1 and 2, and we were competing. We were right there and missing a couple strong kids too, so I think it sets us up fairly well for provincials."

He noted that their pitching depth will prove to be an asset, given the style of the event.

"We're taking 12 kids, and in a pinch, all twelve can pitch for us. We have ten starting pitchers, and definitely can complain about that in a long tournament like provincials, you definitely need the pitching."

"I can't complain about any one part of our team. We're strong in the field and we have some very good bats, so things are looking up for sure," Babyak added.

Their first game gets rolling at 6:00 PM on Friday as they take on the Saskatoon Blue Jays Bandits. Coincidentally, Babyak will be coach his squad against family, as his nephew and brother are both on the Bandit coaching staff.

Meanwhile, the Estevan Mosquito Sluggers head to White City, where they will first take on the Saskatoon Super A's at 10:00 AM Friday morning.
