The boys of summer are now putting the bats away as the 2017 season has come to an end for teams in the Saskota Baseball League.

Senior AA Men's baseball provincial playdowns were held across Saskatchewan over the weekend with eight of the ten teams from the southeast participating across four divisions.

While no Saskota representative returned home with the provincial championship, all teams still enjoyed a terrific season of baseball in the southeast.

The 2017 Oxbow Chiefs

TIER 2 PROVINCIALS in YORKTON

The Oxbow Chiefs would be the most successful Saskota team on the weekend. After finishing 1st in their pool (2-1) after round robin play, the Chiefs would earn a walk-off 1-0 win over the host Yorkton Yankees, punching their ticket to the final against the Border City Blue Jays. However, the Lloydminster-based squad defeated Oxbow 7-0 in the championship game.

Also at the tournament were the 2017 Harbourne Champion Estevan Tower Wolves and the Carlyle Cardinals. Estevan (2-1) finished in a 3-way tie for first in their pool after round robin play, but narrowly missed top spot due to the tie-breaking formula. That gave Border City 1st in the pool, forcing a tiebreaker game between Estevan and Yorkton early Sunday morning. The Yankees defeated the Tower Wolves 5-3 to end Estevan's season.

Meanwhile, the Carlyle Cardinals went 1-2 in round robin play and failed to make the playoff round on Sunday.

TIER 3 PROVINCIALS in UNITY

The Carnduff Astros were the lone team from the Saskota in Unity over the weekend. Carnduff came flying out of the gate, scoring 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 16-2 win in their opening game. However, the Astros would fall in their next two games to finish (1-2) and miss the playoff round on Sunday.

The Northeast Red Sox claimed the championship, defeating the host Unity Cardinals 12-9 in the final.

TIER 4 PROVINCIALS in STANDARD HILL

The Arcola Threshers and Kenosee Cubs represented the southeast in Standard Hill, both making the playoff round on Sunday.

Kenosee went (2-1) in round robin play after a pair of come-from-behind victories, but fell in the semi-final round to Meadow Lake.

Meanwhile, after losing their first two games, Arcola (1-2) tallied a big win in their final round robin game to sneak into the playoff round. However, they were defeated by the hosts and eventual champions from Standard Hill in the semi-final.

The Standard Hill Lakers defeated the Meadow Lake Sox 13-3 to claim the championship.

TIER 5 PROVINCIALS in WINDTHORST

The Windthorst Pirates were the lone Saskota team to play host to provincial play on the weekend, with the Redvers A's also participating in the tournament. However, neither team were able to make the semi-final round.

The Gull Lake Greyhounds claimed the championship with an 11-4 win over the Shaunavon Badgers.
