Residents of Estevan can sleep easy knowing that their police chief, Paul Ladouceur is on the job. During the early morning hours of April 22, Chief Ladouceur could hear a number of loud vehicles driving up and down King Street.

"I just got tired on listening to it so I decided to mosey on out and take care of it." he explained. "Our members were tied up with other matters so I figured I'd just go out and deal with it."

"There was a bunch of vehicles racing up and down King street, squealing tires, revving engines," he described. "Certainly, it was loud enough that I could hear it within my own residence and I started getting phone calls from other residents and neighbours asking what was going on and a few people commented on Twitter saying it looks like 'The Fast and the Furious.'"

"I simply took a drive and observed about six cars that were all squealing tires. There was one individual whose back of his truck was actually swinging back and forth into both lanes of traffic and driving erratically."

An individual received a ticket for operating without reasonable consideration for others. The ticket carries a fine of $280.

"It's one of those things where people have young kids who go to bed and you should be able to sleep in your house without annoying noises keeping you up. Driving is a privilege, not a right so respect the rules of the road."

Ladouceur adds that the Estevan Police Service will be taking a zero tolerance approach to this annoying problem.

"There's two things we're really going to be cracking down on this summer and that is after-market mufflers that exceed noise levels and squealing tires. There's no need to put a muffler on a car that wakes everyone up. And contrary to popular belief, it doesn't make your car go faster, it just makes it more annoying."
