Estevan residents had the chance this past Friday to fill up their gas tanks and fill a need, as Southern Plains Co-op held a fundraiser to support the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity's house build project.

10 cents from every liter of fuel purchased at either location in town went towards the cause. 40,000 liters was sold, equating to just over $4,000 raised for the cause.

"This was a great boost. We appreciate the Co-op partnering with us in this area, and we're really pleased with the outcome. It's very encouraging," expressed Doug Barnstable, the Chairman of the Habitat steering committee.

"We just recently hit the monetary goal that we needed to do our lot purchase, and this will add on to it and make more funds available for the construction."

"There was definitly a lot of support for Habitat," noted Brian Enns, the General Manager of Southern Plains Co-op, noting that they heard nothing but positive feedback from the public.

"We had some customers putting in small amounts of fuel on Wednesday and Thursday, and waiting till Friday to fill up. It's great to see the community involved in this."

Now the group is working on purchasing the lot and obtaining a building permit. According to Barnstable, they hope to begin construction within a month's time.
