The Estevan Trapshooting club held a competition this weekend, with quite a few competitors hailing from all around the prairies.

Some of them hailed from The other side of the provincial border, such as Virden and Brandon from Manitoba.

Others were closer to home, from Regina, while a good few were at home here in Estevan.

Local Trapshooter Reg King talked a bit about the experience of shooting with people from such different communities.

"It went really well, the weather was great, we had 14 shooters come out, they were from Estevan Virden, Brandon, and Regina."

"We shoot with them quite regularly," said King, "We still practice in some safe conditions."

"We practice on Wednesdays and Sundays. We try to get in as much as we can. then we just go to our registered shoots whatever weekends whenever other clubs have them and that's when we try to get our practice in."

From the event, there were a fair few winners, including the Kings, who are from Estevan.

"Myself, Reg King won, Logan King won, Barry Gordon won some stuff, Jon Nuttall," said King, "And a couple of others I can't think of at the moment."

King says that the sport is important, and wants to see more people come out to try and understand an issue he says is important.

"The biggest thing I believe it tries to bring attention to is the gun issue," said King, "Which people are so scared of, and there's nothing to be scared of."

"I'd like to see more people come out. It's a fun sport, and it's kinda gotten to be a forgotten sport so I'd like to see more people involved."

The club also has another event coming up soon, though this one is a lot less competitive.

"We've got a fun shoot coming up on September 18th. It'll start at noon, everybody's welcome it's fun, all we do is go out and shoot at some clays and have a few prizes and have a good social event. Anybody and everyone is welcome."
